For me, the acronym H.U.M.A.N. may also be interpreted as “ How U Manage Another’s Needs”.  My approach in helping patients is to always do it in a fashion that you would have the same done to you.

I am in private periodontal practice in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town, South Africa. We are a multi-disciplined specialist practice providing care in the fields of Periodontology, Implantology, Oral Medicine and Orthodontics. Our orthodontics service is managed by Prof Angela Harris, Head of Orthodontics at the University of the Western Cape. We also have two dental hygienists as part of the team.

FOUNDER OF: Findmyimplant.com – which is a global dental implant registry.

After entering your patient’s dental implant details after surgery, the system automatically sends the patient an email with details on how to log on to see their dental implant details. In the future (months to years to decades) this info may be required to a) deal with troubleshooting in a quick and efficient way, b) to make the crowns on implants that were placed a while ago, or c) to have a new prosthesis made after many years. The patient provides the new attending dentist with their email and pin for all relevant dental implant info to be accessed.

For the dental implant surgeon it assimilates all dental implant data into an easy to access system and provides a facility to upload an x-ray from the day of placement and to send an email to a referring colleague thereby communicating all the relevant implant data to the restoring dentist.
If the restoring dentist is registered on findmyimplant.com then the patient details will automatically be added to the registry of the referring dentist. If the restoring dentist is not registered then the system will prompt the restoring dentist to register for free.

Once the restoring dentist loads the restoration data the automatic email system to the patient is initiated (if the patient agreed and gave consent). An annual email is generated to the patient to encourage follow up. Two further emails are generated to the patient. One at 3 months post-restoration placement to inform the patient of the relevance of optimal plaque control methods. The second email is generated at 6 months post-restoration to remind the patient of the importance of regular dental hygienist visits. These emails have reply functions to the office of the dentist who placed the restoration.

Registering is for free as are the first three dental implant entries. Thereafter the system will prompt the user as to an annual subscription.
